Atlanta First/Last-Mile Hub Plan
Proposed e-scooter and bike-share hub sites that connect residents to
MARTA within a 10-minute walk (400 m radius at
2 km/h).
Each hub is sized for at least 3 shared devices.
Reading the map
- Blue bike icons — proposed hub locations (click for details)
- Light blue circles — 10-min walk service area per hub
- Solid blue lines — existing bike lanes and trails
- Train icons — MARTA rail stations
- Use the layer control (top-right) to toggle bus stops and bike layers
How hubs were selected
-
Build candidates — Start from all 3,763 MARTA bus and
rail stops. Add offset points on nearby bike lanes (within
100 m of a stop) so hubs can sit on safe cycling
infrastructure, not only at the curb.
-
Model demand — Lay a 200 m population grid
across Atlanta census tracts. Residents in lowest-income (Q1) tracts
count double so underserved areas are prioritised.
-
Greedy max-coverage — One hub at a time, pick the candidate
that serves the most people not yet within 400 m of any chosen
hub or stop. Stop at 95% population coverage or
400 hubs, whichever comes first.
-
Tie-breakers — When two sites cover similar population,
prefer rail stations, then stops closest to bike lanes.
-
Annotate — Each hub records nearest MARTA stop, distance to
bike infrastructure, and estimated residents within the walkshed.
This run
- 400 hubs (5 at rail, 395 at bus stops
, 32 on bike-lane offsets)
- 3,763 MARTA stops in the network
